2,4-D Hormesis Effect on Soybean Planta Daninha
SILVA,J.R.O.; MARQUES,J.N.R.; GODOY,C.V.C.; BATISTA,L.B.; SILVA,A.A.; RONCHI,C.P..
ABSTRACT: The hormesis effect of 2,4-D, applied at two stages of soybean development, on the physiological components of crop yield, was investigated. Soybean seeds of the cultivar ‘AG 3680 IPRO’ were sown in pots containing 7 L of a substrate and kept in a greenhouse. A randomized complete block design with four replicates was used. Eighteen treatments were tested, arranged in a split-plot scheme. The plots consisted of two stages of herbicide application (V4 and V6), and the split-plots were arranged by nine 2,4-D doses (0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 40, and 50 g ha-1). At the time of harvest, 100 days after sowing, significant interactions between crop development stages and 2,4-D doses were observed for the number of nodes in the main stem (NNMS) and the...

Effects of auxin and misting on the rooting of herbaceous and hardwood cuttings from the fig tree Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Sousa,Cleiton Mateus; Busquet,Rubens Nei; Vasconcellos,Marco Antônio da Silva; Miranda,Ricardo Motta.
Propagation of the fig tree predominately uses hardwood cuttings obtained from pruning stock plants. With a view to optimising fig tree propagation, the effects of auxin and misting on the rooting of herbaceous and hardwood cuttings from the fig tree were evaluated. An experiment was set up in a 2x2x2 factorial design, with two types of cuttings (softwood and hardwood), two levels of auxin (0 and 1000 mg L-1 indolbutyric acid) and two environments (with and without misting). Thirty days after starting the experiment, rooting, root length, sprouting and losses were all evaluated. The interaction of the type of cutting and the auxin was significant for rooting, sprouting, root length and cutting loss. Misting did not affect the variables analysed. In the...

Effects of light and ethylene on endogenous hormones and development of Catasetum fimbriatum (Orchidaceae) Braz. J. Plant Physiol.
Suzuki,Rogério M.; Kerbauy,Gilberto B..
This study attempted to clarify the effects of dark, light and ethylene on plant growth and endogenous levels of indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), cytokinins and abscisic acid in Catasetum fimbriatum. Dark-incubation fully inhibited root and pseudobulb formation as well as leaf growth, but favored shoot elongation. The results of continuous and active growth in dark-incubated shoots (stolons) were induced by strong apical meristem sink activity and by the significantly increased levels of cytokinins in shoots. In fact, shoot length, cytokinin and IAA levels in dark-incubated shoots were about twice as great as for those grown under light conditions. Moreover, the total cytokinin level in shoots of C. fimbriatum under light conditions without ethylene was...

Endogenous auxin and cytokinin contents associated with shoot formation in leaves of pineapple cultured in vitro Braz. J. Plant Physiol.
Mercier,Helenice; Souza,Beatriz Maia; Kraus,Jane Elizabeth; Hamasaki,Regina Mayumi; Sotta,Bruno.
The in vitro culture of pineapple leaves on a shoot induction medium (SIM) results in the formation of protuberances and further development in shoots, and plantlets. The contents of endogenous indoleacetic acid (IAA) and five cytokinins (Cks), N6(2-isopentenyl)adenine (iP), N6(2-isopentenyl)adenosine (iPR), zeatin (Z), zeatin riboside (ZR) and N6-benzyladenine (BA), present in the basal portion of those leaves, were correlated to the organogenic response that occurs over 15 days of culture. The endogenous auxin/cytokinins ratio was lowest on the 3rd day, mainly due to a strong increase in the iP level. It seems that endogenous iP concentration triggered the induction signal for an organogenic response in pineapple leaf bases. The rise in iP content...

Endophytes: exploitation as a tool in plant protection BABT
Dutta,Devanushi; Puzari,Keshab Chandra; Gogoi,Robin; Dutta,Pranab.
Endophytes are symptomless fungal or bacterial microorganisms found in almost all living plant species reported so far. They are the plant-associated microbes that form symbiotic association with their host plants by colonizing the internal tissues, which has made them valuable for agriculture as a tool in improving crop performance. Many fungal endophytes produce secondary metabolites such as auxin, gibberellin etc that helps in growth and development of the host plant. Some of these compounds are antibiotics having antifungal, antibacterial and insecticidal properties, which strongly inhibit the growth of other microorganisms, including plant pathogens. This article reviews the endophyte isolated from different plants, mode of endophytic infection and...

Endophytic colonization of rice (Oryza sativa L.) by the diazotrophic bacterium Burkholderia kururiensis and its ability to enhance plant growth Anais da ABC (AABC)
Mattos,Katherine A.; Pádua,Vania L.M.; Romeiro,Alexandre; Hallack,Leticia F.; Neves,Bianca C.; Ulisses,Tecia M.U.; Barros,Claudia F.; Todeschini,Adriane R.; Previato,José O.; Mendonça-Previato,Lucia.
Burkholderia kururiensis is a diazotrophic bacterium originally isolated from a polluted aquifer environment and presents a high level of similarity with the rice endophyte "B. brasilensis" species. This work assessed the ability of B. kururiensis to endophytically colonize rice plantlets by monitoring different tissues of root-inoculated plants for the presence of bacterial growth in different media, electron microscopy and by 16S rDNA analysis. Observations of roots, stems and leaves of inoculated rice plantlets by electron microscopy revealed B. kururiensis colonization predominantly on root hair zones, demonstrating endophytic colonization primarily through the endodermis, followed by spreading into xylem vessels, a possible pathway leading to aerial...

Gas exchange in Annona emarginata (Schltdl.) H. Rainer subjected to salt stress and application of plant growth regulator Sci. Agrar.Paran. / SAP
Dalanhol, Samanta Jaqueline; Mantoan, Luís Paulo Benetti; Amaro, Amanda Cristina Esteves; Ferreira, Gisela.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of the application of plant growth regulator on gas exchange in A. emarginata seedlings subjected to different NaCl concentrations. We evaluated the gas exchange in A. emarginata seedlings subject to the presence and absence of plant growth regulator consisting of kinetin, gibberellic acid, and indolbutyric acid and three concentrations of NaCl (0 mM, 50 mM, and 100 mM). When assessing these factors individually, it was observed that in the presence of plant growth regulators, there was a reduction in stomatal conductance and transpiration, and NaCl concentration (50 mM and 100 mM) caused a reduction in CO2 assimilation, stomatal conductance, and transpiration. There was no significant interaction between...

Gene expression of a putative glutathione S-transferase is responsive to abiotic stress in embryogenic cell cultures of Cyclamen persicum Electron. J. Biotechnol.
Hoenemann,Claudia; Ambold,Juliane; Hohe,Annette.
Background: Cyclamen persicum is an economically important ornamental crop that is propagated exclusively through seeds as vegetative propagation using cuttings is not possible. Therefore a micropropagation method through somatic embryogenesis is of high interest; however the method suffers from low reliability concerning quality and quantity of the produced plantlets. A crucial step of the protocol is the removal of plant growth regulators (PGRs) that triggers embryo development. In order to get a better insight in this crucial step of the propagation process, a gene expression analysis has been set up using five different genes of glutathione S-transferases (GST) as these are known to be auxin responsive as well as stress reactive. Results: One out of...

Braga, Karina de Queiroz; Coimbra, Mairon César; Castro, Ana Hortência Fonsêca.
A protocol for the in vitro germination and callus induction in Pyrostegia venusta, a medicinal plant species from the Brazilian savannah (Cerrado) is provided. The establishment of cultures of P. venusta was originally obtained from seeds germinated in vitro and induced callus directly from leaf explants of seedlings. Seeds were germinated on MS and WPM media containing 100 and 50% of salt concentration, supplemented with 30 g L-1 sucrose. Callus induction consisted of the inoculation of leaf segments on MS medium plus 2,4-D or BAP in the presence or absence of light. The germination percentage averaged 85% and the aerial parts and roots of seedlings obtained in WPM with 50 and 100% of salt concentration showed elevated contents of total phenolic...

Influence of 2,4-D and BAP on callus growth and the subsequent regeneration of somatic embryos in long-term cultures of Pelargonium x domesticum cv. Madame Layal Electron. J. Biotechnol.
Haensch,Klaus-Thomas.
This long-term study demonstrates for the first time that it is possible to propagate embryogenic cultures in pelargoniums and to subsequently initiate the differentiation of embryos using the cultivar Madame Layal (Pelargonium x domesticum). Propagation of callus was only possible with combinations of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) and 6-benzylaminopurine (BAP), which gave rise to embryos from the primary culture stage on. However, the propagation of cells, as well as the differentiation of embryos, was inhibited by a continuous application of these growth regulators. For this reason, a long period on medium lacking growth regulators was necessary before the differentiation of embryos occurred again. The consequences for improving the propagation...
